About
About Us
Our collective of tutors aims to not only help students develop skills that enable them to thrive academically, but also help students grow into confident young people who are rooted in their values. We do so by equiping them with the interpersonal and professional tools needed to engage, contribute and work in solidarity within diverse communities and teams.

At Redwood Learning Collective, we believe that traditional educational systems often fail to meet students’ holistic needs, and in many cases, actively harm their self-esteem, critical thinking, curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and creative problem-solving.
Research and lived experience show that this impact is not evenly distributed. Students with systemic privilege may be conditioned into harmful patterns that limit empathy and reinforce inequity, while students without systemic privilege are often disempowered and denied the support they need to thrive.
We created Redwood to help address these imbalances. Through one-on-one tutoring and group enrichment courses, we work in partnership with students and their families to nurture lifelong learners, young people who are confident, critically engaged, and prepared to navigate the world with purpose and resilience.
The Problem We Aim To Solve
The educational system is not designed to holistically support every student. This leads to:
-
A lack of essential skill-building and self-esteem development
-
Educational inequities shaped by race, wealth, and systemic access
-
Students receiving support based on income rather than need

Our Approach
We provide specialized one-on-one support tailored to each student’s individual goals, learning style, and personal development. Our professional expertise creates a structured yet flexible environment where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning while feeling consistently supported.
Our approach:
Goes beyond homework help
Identifies and addresses foundational learning gaps
Promotes emotional and cognitive growth
Builds self-esteem, resilience, and a growth mindset
Develops independent learning and critical thinking skills
We also work to reframe academic "failures" as opportunities for reflection, learning, and growth.
Our Vision
We envision a society that values all contributions and ways of being, where students from all backgrounds can develop a strong sense of identity, a deep understanding of historical inequities, and the interpersonal and professional skills to thrive in diverse, collaborative communities.
Through inclusive, equity-centered tutoring and mentoring, we aim to amplify voices that have historically been marginalized and support each student in becoming not just a better learner, but a more engaged and empowered human being.
Join Our Team
Our mission is to develop cooperative/worker-run, affordable educational support services that address curriculum harm and empower students to grow into confident young adults rooted in their values, who think critically and have the skills to work in solidarity within diverse communities and teams.
